This time of year finds most of us finalizing budgets and considering creative ways to meet the public demand for more services, increased costs for professional contracts, and maintaining a reasonable economic balance for employees all based on the same (or less) funding levels as the previous year’s. In addition, governmental agencies are trying to get a handle on new requirements and changes passed during the last legislative session. In the middle of all this we face the challenges of another very active hurricane season.
The current edition of PGIT 411 offers some insights into the recent decision of the Florida Supreme Court regarding sovereign immunity and contractual liability, increased activity by the State of Florida in pursuing workers’ compensation fraud, and a look at the proactive efforts of PGIT members to maintain safe working environments.
The Board of Trustees welcomes back Mr. Robert Walker, Mayor, City of Springfield, as Trustee and extends a welcome to Ms. Mary Martin, Councilwoman, City of Port Orange, as Alternate Trustee. Congratulations to both on their election to the Board. I speak for the entire PGIT membership when I say that we look forward to utilizing their leadership skills and experience in serving the public sector.
Ed Wolf, Chair
